About

Common information

  • The name of Dr. Pál Koltai is considered one of the leading authorities in head and neck surgery in Hungary today. He has performed an extremely large number of surgeries in extremely complicated cases. As an adjunct professor at the National Institute of Oncology, he treats serious diseases and performs complex reconstructive surgeries.
  • I started at the National Institute of Oncology, and that’s where I primarily work today—and I have no intention of ever changing that. But in addition to that, I also work at other healthcare institutions; for example, I practice dermatologic surgery as well. In oncological surgery, one encounters many serious cases with poor prognoses, which take a physical and emotional toll on patients and are also emotionally challenging for the doctor.

Education

  • Clinical oncology specialist examination(2004)
  • Ear, nose and throat examination(2002)

Performed procedures

  • As for head and neck surgery: we treat quite a few large tumors in difficult-to-reach locations. When treating oral, pharyngeal, or laryngeal cancer, the tumor must first be removed, followed by reconstruction. These areas are quite “interconnected” with structures that are vital for life functions. Eating, drinking, chewing, and speaking all take place in this area. Regardless of the treatment—whether it involves a tumor, surgery, or radiation therapy—rehabilitation and reconstruction are necessary afterward so that the patient can eat, drink, and speak.
