Éva Keresztessy is a special needs teacher, speech therapist, and pediatric audiologist. She has been involved in hearing screening and diagnosis for newborns, infants, and young children for several decades. She believes that hearing loss does not have to be a lifelong obstacle. In fact, if it is detected early, it does not have to be a difficult obstacle. To this end, it is very important to screen every baby's hearing. If this indicates hearing loss, precise diagnostic tests are needed immediately, because the child's future may depend on whether they can access sound, music, speech, and the world quickly enough.
Éva Keresztessy works with babies who cannot yet speak, often cannot even lift their heads, and tries to find out how much they hear of the world around them. This is the most important task. Hearing does not begin with speech. It does not begin when a child first says "mama." Hearing is already the driving force behind the development of the nervous system in newborns. As soon as we are born, the auditory areas of the brain await stimulation. They wait for us to activate them. If this does not happen, the brain does not develop as it should. Her professional credo is that no child should be denied this opportunity.
